Value: 65 Crore | Fed up with the foul smell emanating from the garbage dump in Sector 23, those living across the Ghaggar have urged the Municipal Corporation, Panchkula, to commence the work on the garbage treatment plant at Jheuriwala village
The Municipal Corporation had awarded the contract for the Rs 65-crore garbage treatment plant project to a French firm, Mailhem Ikos Management Private Limited
Dharam Singh Hira, president of the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA), Sector 26, said they had urged Municipal Commissioner Rajesh Jogpal to commission the project before the onset of summer. He said it had become difficult for them to live in the area due to the foul smell emanating from the dump yard
“People are suffering from several ailments due to unclean surroundings. They prefer to send their children to their relatives during summer,” he added
Hira said a delegation of residents, along with Panchkula civic body officials, had visited Nashik in the first week of November, where the company had set up a garbage processing plant
He said the delegation found that no foul smell emanated from it after which they agreed for the installation of a garbage treatment plant at Jheuriwala village
Rajesh Jogpal said the work had been allocated to the company, which would begin it soon. He said tenders would be floated soon to clear the garbage dump
Initially, the plant will have the capacity to process 180 tonnes of garbage daily, which will be increased to 300 tonnes per day
The Municipal Corporation is planning to earn from the compost made from the green waste
